New York City, New York

There is nothing to write about this amazing city. You all know about this city, its attractions, its busy life, the tall buildings and skyline. One thing I can say about this city is that – this city is different from all other cities in United States.  This city offers many great attractions like – skyline with tall skyscrapers, Empire State Building, Times Square, Rockefeller Center and many more that I cannot list in this blog.

I visited this city during the Christmas holidays of year 2009. This is perhaps the best time to visit New York City as the entire city is decorated to welcome the new year, in my case it was 2010.  I was still in Minneapolis at that time and had some family/relatives in Jersey City. I decided to visit them and tour this city.  It takes about 4 hours (by flight) to get to Newark,NJ from Minneapolis.

My first destination was my cousin’s place. After spending some good time with them they took me around in the city. We started with the Lake Front area in Jersey City. You can see the beautiful skyline of the New York city from there (both the mid town and the downtown). It was a sunny and clear day so the view of the skyline was spectacular.

Next we went to the Liberty State Park. It snowed by that time and the entire city was covered by snow. I got to take some really great pictures on that day. It was 25th December 2009 and the ferries to the Statue of Liberty was closed so we could only visit the Liberty State Park and visited it’s old Railway Station and took some pictures.

At the end we went on a walk to the New York city where we visited the Rockefeller Center and Times Square to finish the trip.

Lake Calhoun, Minneapolis

The biggest lake in Minneapolis.Lake Calhoun is one beautiful lake to visit. Located near St. Louis Park, Minneapolis, this lake offers various activities like walking trails, bicycle trails, kayaks, canoeing etc to the visitors.

 

I was in Minneapolis during winter 2009 when I decided to visit this lake. This lake is very easy to find if you have a car but unfortunately I did not have a car at that time.So I decided to take a bus. It took about 20-30 min to get to the lake.

 

It was almost winter and the lake side was very cold (especially for an Indian who is used to hot/humid weather).  The bus dropped me some where on the West side of the lake and I wanted to go to the North Beach area of the lake. Damn ! it was cold..but I had no option but to walk ! So I started walking towards the north beach and clicked some pictures and was also talking on phone with a friend of mine who was telling me some facts about this lake. Interestingly – Lake Calhoun freezes completely during the peak winters of Minneapolis and you can actually walk on the lake, fly kites or may be even take your car on the lake :- )

 

The weather was cold but not cold enough to freeze the lake yet (it was only November. The lake would freeze by January/February) but was cold enough to stop all the water sports. So the only activity that I could do was to take a “walk” on the lake side and take some pictures. I was a really cold afternoon and probably that was the reason why I was one of the very few walking by the lake.

 

Once I reached the North Beach, I was there for about an hour. I took some nice pictures and then returned back home.  Overall it was a wonderful experience and I really liked the lake and its surroundings.
