Kalsubai, Maharashtra

title
Kalsubai is the highest peak (1646 meters) of Sahyadri mountains. It’s located in the Akole taluka of Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. It is an easy yet a very beautiful trek (and one that I personally recommend).
Most of us who live in Mumbai, often look for a one day getaway trip between Mumbai and Pune. Kalsubai is one of the many such destinations. It is a fairly easy trek with spectacular views and raw nature. The best time to visit this place would be in winters when the weather is not very harsh on you. All you have to make sure if that you are going with some one who knows about that place and can guide you (as there are no sign boards that can guide you to the top).
Luckily for us, this trek was planned by trekking enthusiasts from our company, so we had no problems with directions. All the travel arrangements and other arrangements like food, water was taken cared by our folks. So I was pretty relaxed throughout the trek.  But if you are going on your own, I would suggest you do your homework first before you leave for the trek. As with any trek your do in Maharashtra (or any where in India), you need to wear proper shoes.
We went for this trek during August 2008.We started our trek at about 5.30am in the morning and it took us about 3 hours to get to the top. The 3 hours are tiring but well worth the scenic overlooks and the “Kalsubai” temple at the top.
Here are some snaps for this trip.
This is the picture of our group starting the trek.
